What Happens During a CT Scan?

Most CT scans are performed in a hospital or imaging center. The full appointment may take around 15 to 30 minutes, although the actual image collection can be much faster.

The process usually includes the following steps:

  1. You change into a gown if needed.
  2. A technologist helps you lie on the scanning table.
  3. An IV line is placed if intravenous contrast is required.
  4. The table moves through the scanner’s circular opening.
