Dr. Ritwick Panicker is a highly experienced and accomplished Hematologist/Oncologist with a remarkable career spanning over 24 years of practice. With a deep commitment to providing value-based cancer care, Dr. Panicker has accumulated six years of invaluable experience in this field.
Dr. Panicker has pursued an impressive educational journey. His pursuit of excellence began at Christian Medical College in Vellore, India, where he received a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 1982, ranking fo...urth among his cohort. He earned a Master of Medical Management (MMM) degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016. Throughout his medical school journey, Dr. Panicker achieved honors in various disciplines, including Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Community Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and holds membership in the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP).
To further enhance his expertise, Dr. Panicker completed several fellowships and residency training programs. Notably, Dr. Panicker pursued Hematology Fellowships at University Hospital, Cardiff, UK (1986–1988), and Ealing Hospital/Royal Postgraduate Medical School, London, UK (1986). Additionally, he completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, from 1988 to 1990. He also undertook a Medical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Washington, Seattle, from 1990 to 1992.
Currently serving as the Senior Medical Director at New Century Health since 2016, Dr. Panicker plays a pivotal role in leading the development of clinical pathways and policies that support multiple managed care clients. By embracing a value-based care approach, Dr. Panicker ensures that patients receive the most effective and efficient treatments while optimizing outcomes.
Prior to joining New Century Health, Dr. Panicker served as an Attending Hematologist/Oncologist at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) from 2010 to 2016. During this tenure, Dr. Panicker demonstrated a profound commitment to oncology care quality, spearheading the attainment of new organizational accreditations and certifications. As the Chair of the Cancer Committee, he achieved QOPI Certification and successfully established fellowship teaching programs, contributing to the growth and development of the institution.
From 1999 to 2010, Dr. Panicker held the position of Attending Hematologist/Oncologist at Cancer Care Associates, where his contributions extended beyond patient care. As a member of the Board of Directors from 2004 to 2010, Dr. Panicker displayed exceptional leadership and financial authority at this statewide cancer practice. Additionally, he served as the Medical Director of the CLIA-Certified Lab, ensuring high standards of laboratory testing. Dr. Panicker played a pivotal role in developing a thriving breast cancer practice within the organization, assuming fiscal and strategic accountability as a board member, practicing oncologist, and key physician.
During his tenure as an Attending Hematologist/Oncologist at Carolinas Medical Center Northeast from 1995 to 1999, Dr. Panicker established the New Head & Neck Cancer Chemo Board. His commitment to education was exemplified through an adjunct professorship at Duke University Medical Center, further contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge.
As the Medical Director of the Cancer Program at Logan Regional Medical Center from 1993 to 1995, Dr. Panicker successfully established a new and profitable cancer practice. His leadership resulted in significant revenue and volume growth while ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare services in accordance with established guidelines.
