Dr. Arnold Ganser is a highly accomplished German hematologist and university professor who has contributed significantly to the field of medicine through his research, publications, and affiliations. Dr. Ganser received his MD from the RWTH Aachen Faculty of Medicine and the University of Glasgow's School of Medicine in 1979. He began his career working as a registrar at the Department of Surgery, Bundeswehr Central Hospital in Koblenz, Germany, from 1979 to 1981. Dr. Ganser then worked as a re...search assistant at the Department of Clinical Physiology and the Department of Internal Medicine III at the University of Ulm from 1981 to 1984. He then worked at the Department of Hematology/Oncology at Goethe University Frankfurt as a research assistant and fellow from 1984 to 1995, when he became the director of the Department for Hematology, Hemostasis, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation at Hannover Medical School. Dr. Ganser's research interests are focused on myelodysplastic syndromes, acute leukemia, aplastic anemia, stem cell transplantation, the use of hematopoietic growth factors, and alterations of hematopoiesis in AIDS. He has more than 800 original publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and his work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Thomson Reuters "Highly Cited Researcher" (Top 1% in the field) award in 2014, the Cooperation Award of Lower Saxony in 2007, the Cancer Award of the Cancer Society of Hessen in 1992, the Dr. Paul und Cilli Weil-Prize of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt/Main in 1990, and the Arthur-Pappenheim-Prize of the German Society for Hematology and Oncology in 1988. Dr. Ganser is a member of several professional societies and organizations, including the American Society of Hematology, the European Haematology Association, the European Blood and Marrow Transplantation Group, the International Association for Comparative Leukemia Research and Related Disorders, and the German Society for Hematology and Oncology. He serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Hematology and is the editor-in-chief of the Annals of Hematology.
