Biography

Dr. Andrés José María Ferreri has an impressive work history and scientific expertise in the field of oncology, specifically focusing on lymphomas. His career began with specialized training in clinical oncology at the Central Military Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 1987 to 1989. He then pursued further education and training opportunities abroad, including a fellowship at the National Cancer Institute in Milan, Italy, from 1990 to 1994, where he specialized in experimental oncology a...nd medical oncology. Continuing his fellowship, Dr. Ferreri joined the Division of Radiochemotherapy at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Italy, from 1994 to 1998. During this time, he conducted research and contributed to the field of radiochemotherapy. He then transitioned into a role as a researcher within the same division, where he worked from 1998 to 2004. In 2004, Dr. Ferreri took on the responsibility of being the Unit Coordinator in the Medical Oncology Unit at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute. He further advanced his career by becoming the Deputy Director of the Medical Oncology Unit from 2007 to 2010. In 2008, he also assumed the position of Director of the Lymphoma Unit in the Department of OncoHematology at the same institute. Additionally, since 2011, he has served as the Deputy Director of the Division of Onco-Hematological Medicine within the Department of Onco-Hematology. His scientific expertise covers various research fields within lymphomas. He has been involved as the coordinator of numerous clinico-pathological, retrospective, and prospective studies on different extranodal lymphomas. Additionally, he is recognized as the founder of several cooperative groups focused on lymphomas, including the International PCNSL Cooperative Group, the European PCNSL Cooperative Group, and the International Extranodal Lymphoma Study Group (IELSG). As a Principal Investigator, Dr. Ferreri has contributed to 130 international profit and non-profit phase I, II, and III trials on indolent and aggressive lymphomas. He has also held leadership roles in conducting prospective phase 2 trials in primary CNS lymphomas, MALT lymphomas, diffuse large B-cell lymphomas and the largest international study on intravascular lymphoma. Notably, he discovered the association between ocular adnexal lymphoma and Chlamydia psittaci persistent infection. Dr. Ferreri is an active member of numerous societies, including the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the American Society of Hematology (ASH), and the European Hematology Association (EHA), among others. He has also contributed to the faculties of the European School of Oncology (ESO) and the College of the European School of Oncology (ESCO). His involvement in scientific journals includes serving as an Associate Editor of "Hematological Oncology" and being a member of the editorial boards of the "International Journal of Hematology Research," "BMC Cancer," and "Annals of Lymphoma." Throughout his career, Dr. Ferreri has authored numerous abstracts, original papers, and reviews published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He has written and edited multiple books and chapters in various languages, including English, Italian, and Spanish. Additionally, he has been invited to speak and chair sessions at national and international scientific meetings in these languages. Dr. Ferreri has received several honors for his contributions to the field, including the international award "Paul Harris Fellow" from the Rotary International Foundation. He has also been the recipient of 26 national and international grants for research projects. Notably, he received the Best Paper Award in 2010 from the San Raffaele Scientific Institute for his work on primary CNS lymphoma and another Best Paper Award in 2015 for his research on B-cell lymphoma with secondary central nervous system involvement. In recognition of his expertise, he has been acknowledged as a "World Expert in Lymphoma" and ranked 9th among 129,972 experts.
