Biography

Dr. Thomas DeBerardino is a highly accomplished orthopedic surgeon and professor who specializes in sports medicine. He completed his medical education at New York Medical College in 1989 and went on to receive extensive training in various prestigious institutions. Dr. DeBerardino's training journey began with an internship in Transitional Medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 1989 to 1990. He then pursued his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the same medical ce...nter, spanning from 1991 to 1995. To further enhance his expertise in sports medicine, he completed a fellowship at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research in San Antonio, Texas, from 1995 to 1996. He also spent time at the renowned Vail Steadman-Hawkins Clinic and the Hospital for Special Surgery from 1997 to 1997. Currently, Dr. DeBerardino holds several significant positions. He serves as the Head Orthopedic Team Physician for the UTSA Roadrunners, San Antonio XFL Brahmas, and San Antonio Spurs. Additionally, he holds the position of Division Chief of Sports Medicine at UT Health San Antonio in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. Furthermore, he has been a Professor/Clinical Orthopedic Surgeon at UT Health San Antonio since 2022 and a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine since 2017. Dr. DeBerardino also serves as the Gold Cup International Soccer Sports Medicine Consultant since 2017 and is a member of the Physician Leadership Council at Baptist North Central Hospital in San Antonio, TX. Dr. DeBerardino is an active member of several professional societies, including the Clinical Orthopedic Society, MOCA (Metrics of OsteoChondral Allografts), MERCure, Arthroscopy Association of North America, ACL Study Group, Herodicus Society, Academic Orthopedic Association, Magellan Society for Traveling Fellows, AOSSM (American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine), American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons.
