Biography

Dr. Ricky Rasschaert is a highly experienced neurosurgeon with a diverse range of training and expertise. He completed his medical education at the University of Ghent in Belgium from 1993 to 2001. Following his medical school, Dr. Rasschaert embarked on a series of specialized training programs. He underwent neurology training at the Neurology Department of OLV Hospital Aalst. This was followed by general surgery and then neurosurgery training at the University Hospital Ghent. In 2006, Dr.... Rasschaert continued his neurosurgery training at the Medical Centre Haaglanden in The Hague, the Netherlands, until 2007. He then undertook a fellowship in neuro-oncology at Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam. Dr. Rasschaert further enhanced his expertise by completing a fellowship in neuro-oncology and complex spine surgery at Medical Centre Haaglanden. Starting from 2010 to 2014, Dr. Rasschaert served as a senior staff neurosurgeon at the University Hospital Antwerp. During this time, he focused on reconstructive spinal surgery and neuro-oncology. From 2013 to 2018, Dr. Rasschaert worked as a neurosurgeon and spine surgeon at Sint-Jozef Kliniek Bornem. Since 2019, Dr. Rasschaert has held the position of neurosurgeon and spine surgeon as well as the head of the department at AZ Rivierenland Bornem-Willebroek. He also continues to serve as a neurosurgeon and spine surgeon at AZ Middelheim ZNA Antwerp since 2014. Dr. Rasschaert's special interests lie in spinal reconstructive surgery and neuro-oncology. He has established himself as a leading authority in these fields and has contributed to the medical community through over 35 publications. To further his professional development and remain connected with the neurosurgical community, Dr. Rasschaert holds memberships in various esteemed organizations such as the Belgian Society of Neurosurgery (BSN), Belgian Association of Neuro-oncology (BANO), Dutch Neurosurgical Society (NVVN), European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) as an individual member, AO Spine, SOLAS (Society of Lateral Access Surgery), SMISS (Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery), and NASS.
