Dr. Neil Bhayani is a highly accomplished and experienced surgeon specializing in surgical oncology, liver and pancreatic surgery, reflux and esophageal surgery. Currently serving as the Director of Surgical Oncology and Liver and Pancreatic Surgery, as well as the Director of Reflux and Esophageal Surgery at the Association of South Bay Surgeons in Torrance, CA, Dr. Bhayani has been in this position since 2014. Dr. Bhayani received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School ...of Medicine in Pittsburgh, PA, graduating in 2005. He also obtained a Master of Health Science in Clinical Investigation from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Bhayani's postgraduate training included a residency in the Department of Surgery at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC, from 2005 to 2010. Dr. Bhayani's pursuit of excellence in surgical oncology led him to complete two fellowships. He pursued an Advanced Gastro-Intestinal & Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship at the Providence Cancer Center in Portland, OR from 2011 to 2012. Afterward, Dr. Bhayani completed a Fellowship in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery & Surgical Oncology at the Penn State College in Hershey, PA, from 2012 to 2013. Dr. Bhayani held several prestigious positions. He worked as an Instructor at Providence Hospital from 2010 to 2011. In addition, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Trauma at Howard University Hospital during the same time. From 2012 to 2014, Dr. Bhayani served as an Assistant Professor in the Section of Surgical Oncology at the Penn State Department of Surgery. Throughout his career, Dr. Bhayani has been recognized with numerous honors and awards. He has been honored as a Southern California Rising Star by Super Doctors since 2020. Los Angeles Magazine also awarded him the Top Doctors Award starting in 2018. In 2016, he received the Physician Excellence Award from Friends of Nursing at Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance. Furthermore, he was recognized with the Physician Excellence Award from Torrance Memorial Medical Center in 2015 and was named Physician of the Month at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in 2012. In 2010, he received the Program Director's Award from Howard University Hospital Department of Surgery, and in 2008, he was the recipient of the Resident Research Award at Howard University Hospital. Dr. Bhayani has held various leadership positions, demonstrating his commitment to the medical community. He currently serves on the Professional Advisory Board of the Cancer Support Community South Bay since 2019. He is a member of the Medical Advisory Committee for both the American Liver Foundation since 2018 and the Liver Wellness Foundation since 2020. At Torrance Memorial Medical Center, he has been the Chair of the Hepatobiliary / GI Cancer Committee since 2015 and a member of the Oncology Steering Committee and Physician Education Committee since the same year. From 2016 to 2018, he served as the Cancer Liaison Physician at Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance. He also contributed his expertise as a member of the Surgical Quality & Case Review Committee at Hershey Medical Center from 2013 to 2014 and the Quality Improvement Committee at Howard University Hospital from 2007 to 2008.Dr. Bhayani holds memberships in several esteemed medical associations, including the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association since 2011, the American College of Surgeons since 2001, the Society of Surgical Oncology since 2009, the Society of American Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeons since 2008, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract from 2011 to 2018.
