Biography

Dr. Irene Rossmer is a highly accomplished surgeon and educator with extensive experience in the field of surgical oncology. Her career spans several prestigious institutions and positions. Dr. Rossmer's educational background includes obtaining her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She embarked on her medical career by completing an internship in the Department of Surgery at New York Presbyterian Columbia University from 2008 to 2009. Following this, she purs...ued her residency training in the Department of Surgery at the same institution from 2009 to 2011 and then from 2013 to 2015. During her residency, Dr. Rossmer demonstrated excellence in research, receiving the Blakemore Award for Outstanding Resident Research in 2012, 2013, and 2014. She also served as an Administrative Chief Resident in the Department of Surgery at New York Presbyterian Columbia University from 2014 to 2015, further showcasing her leadership abilities. In 2011, Dr. Rossmer began her postdoctoral research fellowship at The Pancreas Center and the Department of Endocrine Surgery at New York Presbyterian Columbia University, which lasted until 2013. During this period, she focused on research related to pancreatic surgical procedures and endocrine surgery. After completing her residency and postdoctoral research, Dr. Rossmer pursued further specialization in surgical oncology. From 2015 to 2017, she undertook a Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, honing her surgical skills and expanding her knowledge in the field. Following her fellowship, Dr. Rossmer assumed the role of Attending Surgeon in the Division of Surgical Oncology within the Department of Surgery at NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola, NY, from 2017 to 2019. She provided surgical care to patients with oncological conditions during her tenure. In 2019, Dr. Rossmer transitioned to a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery position at NYU-Long Island School of Medicine, affiliated with NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola, NY. She held this role until 2020, contributing to the education and training of aspiring surgeons while continuing to deliver patient care. Since 2020, Dr. Rossmer has been serving as an Attending Surgeon in the Division of Surgical Oncology within the Department of Surgery at Atlantic Medical Group, part of the Atlantic Health System in Summit, NJ. In this position, she continues to provide surgical care to patients with oncological conditions. Throughout her career, Dr. Rossmer has been an active member of several professional organizations. She has been a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 2019 and a member of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract since 2016. Additionally, she is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and The John Jones Surgical Society. Dr. Rossmer's exceptional contributions have been recognized through numerous awards and honors. These include the Blakemore Research Prize for outstanding research during her residency in 2015, the Administrative Chief Resident position at Columbia University Medical Center in 2014, the Blakemore Award for Outstanding Resident Research in 2012, 2013, and 2014, and the Mrs. David A.
