Biography

Dr. Dieter Hoelzer is a renowned Hematologist/Oncologist who has contributed significantly to the field of medicine throughout his career. He received his MD from the Universities of Muenster, Muenchen, and Freiburg and later completed his PhD in Clinical Physiology, Experimental Hematology, and Oncology from the University of Ulm. Dr. Hoelzer started his career as a Research Assistant at the Department of Clinical Physiology at the University of Ulm in 1969. He then went on to become a Resid...ent in Hematology and Oncology at the Department of Internal Medicine, University of Ulm, where he worked from 1974 to 1984. During this time, he also completed a Fellowship in Hematology at the Kanematsu Memorial Institute in Sydney, Australia, in 1975, and a Fellowship at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Long Island, USA, in 1972. In 1984, Dr. Hoelzer was appointed as a Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Frankfurt, where he worked until 2007. He also served as the Head of the Department for Hematology/Oncology, Rheumatology, and Infectious Diseases, at the same university during this time. In 2007, he founded the ONKOLOGIKUM and became its Director. Dr. Hoelzer is a member of several prestigious medical organizations and has held leadership positions in many of them. He was one of the five founding members and President of the European Hematology Association (EHA) and also served as the President of the South-German Hemoblastis Group and the Vice President of the European School of Hematology. He was also the Vice President of the European Society for Clinical Investigation. Dr. Hoelzer has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to the field of medicine. He is an honorary member of the Hematological Societies of Austria, Hungary, and Germany, and has been awarded the San Salvatore Award, the Johann-Georg-Zimmermann-Price, and the European Leukemia Network Merit Award. In 2019, he was awarded a Doctor honoris causa from Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University. He has also been awarded the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Dr. Hoelzer has published more than 800 peer-reviewed original articles, and his contributions to the field of medicine have been significant.
