Biography

Dr. Bryan Burt is a highly accomplished medical professional with extensive experience and expertise in the field of surgery, specifically thoracic surgery. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree with Honors in Research from the prestigious Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York, NY, where he completed his medical education from 1999 to 2003. Following his medical education, Dr. Burt underwent comprehensive postgraduate training to further enhance his surgical skill...s and knowledge. He served as an intern in General Surgery at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, MA, from 2003 to 2004, and continued as a Junior Resident in General Surgery at the same institution from 2004 to 2006. Subsequently, he pursued a Research Fellowship in Cellular Immunology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY, from 2006 to 2008. Dr. Burt then returned to Brigham & Women's Hospital, where he completed his Senior Residency in General Surgery from 2008 to 2010, followed by a residency in Thoracic Surgery from 2010 to 2012. Dr. Burt has held various academic appointments throughout his career. He has been associated with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) since 2014, where he currently serves as a Tenured Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery. Prior to his current positions, he held several other roles at BCM, including Interim Chief and Associate Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery, Associate Professor of Surgery, and Assistant Professor of Surgery. Additionally, Dr. Burt has been the Director of Thoracic Surgery Research at BCM since 2014. In addition to his tenure at BCM, he held the position of Assistant Professor of Thoracic Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine from 2012 to 2014. Dr. Burt's exceptional contributions to the field of surgery have been recognized through numerous honors and awards. He received the prestigious Bud Frazier Innovation Award from the Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in 2022. The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery awarded him the Editorial Board Top Performance Award in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022. Dr. Burt has also been recognized as a Top Doctor in Houston, receiving the Top Doctor's Award in multiple years. In 2021, he received the Distinguished Scientist Award from Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center. His excellence in education was acknowledged with the Norton Rose Fulbright Faculty Excellence Award for Enduring Education in 2019. Dr. Burt is an active member of various professional societies, highlighting his commitment to staying at the forefront of advancements in his field. He has been a member of the Translational Oncoimmunology (TIO) study section at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) since 2022. Additionally, he serves on the Scientific and Government Relations Committee of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and is a member of the Thoracic Oncology Group (TSOG) within the AATS. Dr. Burt is also a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), International Thymic Malignancy Interest Group (ITMIG), and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Dr. Burt's significant contributions to medical literature are evident through his impressive publication record, which includes more than 140 publications.
