Biography

Dr. Benoy Shah is a highly qualified and experienced cardiologist specializing in echocardiography. He holds several degrees and qualifications, including being a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP). Dr. Shah completed his medical degree (MBBS) at Imperial College School of Medicine in 2002 and obtained his Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from Imperial College London in 2016. Currently, Dr. Shah serves as a Consultant Cardiologist at the W...essex Cardiac Centre in Southampton, where he focuses on general cardiology and specializes in echocardiography. He has been working at Southampton General Hospital since 2015 and is responsible for supervising stress echocardiography, transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography lists. In addition, he leads research efforts within the department and actively contributes to improving the overall quality of the department's services. In his current role, Dr. Shah actively engages in research and clinical practice. He represents the Cardiology department on the Trust's Anticoagulation & Haemostasis Steering Group and the Venous Thromboembolism Committee, where he has played a key role in developing guidelines for anticoagulation management of patients with mechanical heart valves. He has also conducted research on the benefits of using ultrasound contrast agents for carotid ultrasonography, specifically focusing on patient risk stratification and plaque characteristics related to cardiovascular outcomes. Notably, he collaborated with oncologists at the Royal Marsden Hospital and physicists at Imperial College for his research, which included the development and validation of novel quantification software. Dr. Shah's expertise is widely recognized, as demonstrated by his appointments to various prestigious committees and organizations. He is a member of the Stress Echo Accreditation Committee of the British Society of Echocardiography and served as the President of the British Heart Valve Society from 2019 to 2022. He is also a council member of the society. Furthermore, he is involved with the British Standards Institute and the International Standards Organization as a member of the Working Group on Heart Valves. Additionally, Dr. Shah contributes his expertise to the Transcatheter Techniques Task Force of the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery. Dr. Shah is actively involved in the academic community and serves as a peer reviewer for several prominent journals in the field of cardiology and echocardiography.
