Gevorg NazaryanNow that 2025 is here, let's take a look at how AI medical assistants and AI doctors shaped healthcare in 2024, helping people track symptoms and manage their health.
To understand this impact, the Docus Research Team analyzed thousands of user interactions, studied AI usage patterns, and examined how people accessed these tools throughout 2024.
Our research shows that AI doctors are helping people make better health decisions and providing support when needed most. In fact, 72% of Docus users reported that AI insights improved their well-being and helped them make more informed medical choices.
More than 60% of digital health users rely on AI medical assistants or AI doctors for health advice. Many people use these tools when they have mild symptoms and are unsure if they need a doctor. AI health assistants provide quick answers and help users decide what to do next.
These tools are especially useful because they are available 24/7. Users don’t have to wait for an appointment—they can check their symptoms anytime. AI assistants also make medical information easier to understand, so people feel more confident about their health.
That said, AI should never replace a doctor’s evaluation. While AI can guide users, only a qualified medical professional can provide a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Our study found that 32% of AI Doctor requests were for cold, flu, or respiratory infections. These are the most common conditions people check, especially during flu season. According to a study published in the Lancet, on average, younger children have 6-8 colds and adults have 2-4 colds per year.
Another significant trend is that 18% of users consulted an AI Doctor for sexual health concerns. People often seek guidance on symptoms related to infections, reproductive health, or other intimate issues before deciding to see a doctor.
We also found that 65% of users consulting an AI Doctor asked about fever, chest pain, or fatigue before deciding to see ‘a doctor. These symptoms often cause concern, and AI helps users figure out if they need medical attention.
Most people use their phones to check symptoms with AI, making healthcare tools more accessible anytime, anywhere.
Our research found that 76.9% of users rely on smartphones, while 21.6% use desktops and only 1.5% use tablets. The convenience of mobile access allows people to check their symptoms instantly, whether at home, at work, or on the go.
AI medical assistants will focus on long-term health tracking and seamless doctor-patient integration.
They will help users monitor chronic conditions, provide personalized alerts, and assist in telemedicine follow-ups.
As AI improves, it will play a bigger role in preventive care, helping users take action before symptoms worsen.
