Dr. Mircea Balasa

Dr. Mircea Balasa is a neurologist with extensive experience in the field of neurodegenerative dementia. He completed his medical training at the University of Lerida and his residency in Neurology at the Hospital Clinic Barcelona, where he also worked as a neurologist from 2010 to 2016. In 2013, Dr. Balasa received his PhD in Neurology from the University of Barcelona, with a focus on early-onset cognitive impairment. Between 2016 and 2018, Dr. Balasa completed a fellowship as an Atlantic Fe...llow for Equity in Brain Health at Trinity College Dublin and the University of California San Francisco. Since 2018, Dr. Balasa has been working as a Consultant Neurologist at the Alzheimer's and Other Cognitive Disorders Unit at Hospital Clinic Barcelona. His research focuses on the use of different biomarkers for the early diagnosis of neurodegenerative dementia. He has also participated in several clinical trials, including trials involving anti-beta-amyloid antibodies and BACE inhibitors. Dr. Balasa has published over 70 articles in academic journals, with a particular focus on novel biomarkers for AD dementia, cerebrospinal fluid, neuroimaging, and multimodal evaluation of subjects with sporadic and genetic early-onset dementias. Dr. Balasa is a member of the Spanish Neurological Society and the Catalan Neurological Society.
