Biography

Dr. Maxim Horwitz is a renowned Hand, Trauma, and Orthopaedic Surgeon currently employed as a Consultant at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust Hospital in London since 2012. He also holds the position of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London and has an honorary contract with the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. Dr. Horwitz's journey in the medical field began with his education at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, where he completed his Medical School from 199...4 to 1999. Afterward, he pursued further specialization through fellowship training and registrar training in various renowned institutions. He served as a Congenital and Children's Hand Fellow at Great Ormond Street Hospital and as an Honorary Hand Fellow at University College Hospital in London from 2010 to 2011. He also gained valuable experience in Hand and Peripheral Nerve Surgery at the Royal North Shore and Westmead Children's Hospital in Sydney in 2009. Furthermore, he completed an AO Trauma Fellowship at Landesklinek Salzburg. Throughout his career, Dr. Horwitz has achieved notable recognition and received several prizes, scholarships, and grants. He was awarded the Best Paper Presentation Award at the International Symposium For Health Information Management Research in 2008, the Pulvertaft Fellow Award from The British Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2008, the Recognition of Supervision Excellence Award from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Postgraduate Department in 2015 and the BSSH Pump Priming Award in 2018. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Horwitz actively contributes to the medical community. He serves as a committee member on the British Society for Surgery of the Hand Council and is a member of the IFSSH 2022 Scientific Committee. He is also invited to review manuscripts for prestigious journals such as The Bone and Joint Journal, The Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Injury Journal, British Journal of Nursing, BMJ Action Sets, and the British Journal of Hospital Medicine. Dr. Horwitz has a strong research background and has supervised various projects. He has been serving as the principal investigator for NIHR-funded trials at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and as a supervisor for pre-trial data collection in projects such as WIRE and Post Axial Polydactyly, CANVAS, and CIPHUR for RSTN. With his dedication to research, he has contributed to more than 60 publications throughout his career.
