Biography

Dr. Anisa Hassan is an accomplished physician with extensive experience in the field of hematology and oncology. She completed her medical education at Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, graduating in 1976. Following her graduation, she pursued further training in the United States. Dr. Hassan began her medical career with an internship at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, from 1977 to 1978. She then completed her residency at the same hospital from 1984 to 1986, speci...alizing in hematology and oncology. Eager to expand her expertise, she pursued a fellowship at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York, from 1987 to 1990. Since September 1997, Dr. Hassan has been serving as a Staff Physician Hematologist/Oncologist at the Cornell Beshore Cancer Institute, a part of the Freeman Health System. In this role, she fulfills various responsibilities besides seeing patients, including serving as the Chairperson for the Tumor Board Conference held weekly. She also acts as the Principal Investigator for research protocols and chairs the Internal Review Board (IRB) Committee and the Steering Committee to review and open new protocols. Additionally, Dr. Hassan contributes to medical education by teaching residents and interns during their rotations. Dr. Hassan's dedication to patient care extends beyond her role as a hematologist/oncologist. Since January 1998, she has been serving as the Medical Director of Hospice Compassus, where she assesses patients' eligibility for hospice care and consults with their physicians to enhance their care. She also acts as a liaison between hospice nurses and other physicians involved in the patients' treatment and provides end-of-life care to terminally ill patients at home. Furthermore, she conducts monthly lectures to Hospice nurses on topics related to end-of-life care. Before joining the Cornell Beshore Cancer Institute and Hospice Compassus, Dr. Hassan held various consultant positions. From 1995 to 1997, she served as a Consultant Hematologist/Oncologist at Al Hada Hospital in Taif, Saudi Arabia, where she also acted as the Chairperson of the Blood Bank. Prior to that, from 1993 to 1994, she worked at the Chapman Cancer Center in Joplin, Missouri, as a Consultant Hematologist/Oncologist. From 1990 to 1993, she held the position of Senior Consultant Hematologist/Oncologist at King Abdul Aziz Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where she played a pivotal role in establishing Hematology Oncology services from the ground up. She also served on the P&T committee, Blood Bank, and Infectious Disease committee during her tenure. Throughout her career, Dr. Hassan has received several awards and honors for her contributions to the medical field. She was recognized with the "Four States Hero award" for her exceptional service provided to the four states of Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas. In 2014, she received the prestigious Women of Dow award, further acknowledging her achievements. Dr. Hassan is an active member of numerous professional organizations, reflecting her commitment to staying up to date with the latest advancements in her field. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, actively participates in cancer committee meetings, ethics meetings, and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and Cancer Research for the Ozarks (CCOP). Furthermore, she is affiliated with the Florida Medical Association (FMA), the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care (AAHPM), and holds the position of Associate Professor at the KU Medical Center. Dr. Hassan is also a member of SWOG, GOG, NSABP.
