The Docus Research Team analyzed thousands of interactions, surveyed users, and studied AI-assisted lab test explanations throughout 2024 to understand its impact on how people interpret their medical results.

Medical reports are often filled with technical terms, confusing numbers, and unfamiliar abbreviations. AI is stepping in to bridge this gap.

Instead of relying solely on doctors for explanations, more people are turning to AI-powered lab test interpretation tools to understand their health data better.

How Did AI Transform Lab Result Interpretation?

One of the biggest problems with lab tests is lack of clarity

Many patients receive their results before they see a doctor, leaving them to search for answers online. This can lead to misinterpretations, anxiety, or unnecessary panic.

A study found that patients often struggle to understand test results, showing a need for clearer explanations. 

Our research found that 78% of users reported feeling more confident about their health after using AI-powered lab test explanations. Instead of staring at a sheet of numbers, they get clear descriptions of what each value means, whether it’s in the normal range, and what steps they should consider next.

For many, this simple shift makes a big difference. AI removes the guesswork, offering users instant, understandable insights instead of complicated medical jargon.

However, understanding lab results is not the same as diagnosing a condition. AI provides clarity, but only a doctor can determine the right course of action. If lab results indicate any abnormalities, it is crucial to follow up with a healthcare professional.

Which Lab Tests Do People Interpret the Most?

While AI can assist with a variety of lab tests, some are searched more frequently than others.

Our findings show that blood tests are the most commonly interpreted, making up 62% of all AI-assisted lab test explanations.

Among these, 40% are complete blood counts (CBC), a routine test used to check for infections, anemia, and immune function.

Another 15% involve lipid panels, which measure cholesterol levels and assess heart disease risk. The remaining 7% consists of other blood tests, such as hormone and vitamin level assessments.

Urine tests also account for a significant portion of AI-assisted interpretations, making up 24% of cases. These tests are commonly used to check for infections, kidney function, and other underlying health conditions.

Additionally, 14% of AI-assisted lab test explanations involve other specialized tests, including semen analysis, swab tests, stool testsand less commonly ordered diagnostic panels.

Interestingly, 28% of users specifically searched for explanations related to blood sugar and cholesterol levels. This trend reflects growing public awareness of diabetes and heart disease, two of the most prevalent chronic conditions worldwide. 

These findings suggest that AI plays a particularly valuable role in chronic disease monitoring, where patients must frequently assess their health status.

Understanding lab results is just the first step. The real impact of AI is helping people make informed health choices.

Instead of feeling unsure about what their numbers mean, people are able to:

  • Ask their doctor the right questions based on AI insights.
  • Make lifestyle changes when their results indicated a potential risk.
  • Avoid unnecessary stress by getting clear, factual interpretations of their test results.

By turning confusing medical data into practical advice, AI is not just helping people understand their health—it’s empowering them to act on it.
