Biography

Dr. Hellmig is an accomplished medical professional with extensive experience in the field of internal medicine. He currently holds the position of Professor of Medicine at the Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel, Germany, is the Chief of the Department of Gastroenterology, Oncology, and General Internal Medicine at imland Clinic Rendsburg, and also serves as the Director of the Colon Cancer Center.

Prior to his current positions, Dr. Hellmig served as the Chief of the 2nd Medical Department at HELIOS-Clinic Schleswig from 2009 to 2013 and as the Provisional Medical Director of the entire hospital from 2011 to 2013. He has also held the position of Head of Endoscopy and Head of Laboratory of Clinical Gastroenterology at the University Hospital Kiel, Germany, from 2005 to 2009. Dr. Hellmig completed his residency in the Department of General Internal Medicine at the same hospital from 1999 to 2005.

Dr. Hellmig's clinical focus is on advanced endoscopic techniques, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of early-stage cancers in the upper and lower GI tract using NBI, EMR, and ESD. He also specializes in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound and ERCP procedures. Additionally, Dr. Hellmig is highly experienced in the treatment of complex IBD patients using all approved biologicals in an outpatient clinic.

Dr. Hellmig has several affiliations, including being a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology (FEBG) and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP). He was also an elected member of the State Board of Medicine from 2014 to 2018 and is a member of several professional organizations, including the Medical Association of Schleswig-Holstein, German Society of Internal Medicine (DGIM), German Society of Digestive Diseases (DGVS), and German Society of Endoscopy (DGEBV).

Dr. Hellmig has presented at over 200 local, chapter, national, and international meetings throughout his career.
