Biography

Dr. Roberto Güerri-Fernandez is an Infectious Disease Physician specializing in Severe Infections, HIV, COVID-19, and Influenza. He studied Medicine at the University of Barcelona and completed MSc in Infectious Diseases and PhD in Medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Dr. Güerri-Fernandez is currently the Chief of Section in Infectious Diseases, Coordinator of HIV infection Unit and COVID-19 Unit at the Hospital del Mar.

Dr. Güerri-Fernandez is: Leader of the research group on viral infections (GRIV) at the IMIM-Hospital del Mar Institute of Medical Research; Principal Investigator in research on comorbidity associated with chronic viral infections in 3 FIS projects of the Carlos III Health Institute (calls 2013, 2016, 2019) and 2 International projects; Principal Investigator Multicentric Research Projects in treatments against SARS-CoV-2 Infection (PICNIC Study). In collaboration with the University of California, Davis and the University of Texas, Galveston; Principal Investigator of Clinical Trials on SARS-CoV-2, HIV, CMV, Influenza viral infections. He currently directs a research line on immunological changes associated with chronic viral infections and the correlation with comorbidities.
