Dr. Piergiorgio Messa

Dr. Piergiorgio Messa completed his medical degree at the University of Padua. He then specialized in Nephrology and General Hematology. Dr. Messa has a long experience in the field of renal transplantation, alterations of mineral and bone metabolism, renal diseases (primary and secondary), and dialysis. He deals with the treatment of all types of nephropathies.

Dr. Messa was the Director of the Complex Operating Unit of Nephrology and Dialysis at the IRCCS Foundation Ca' Granda General Hospital, where he was also Director of the Nephro-Urological Homogeneous Area and Kidney Transplant. Dr. Messa is a Full Professor at the University of Milan.

Dr. Messa had different positions in various scientific associations and congresses, e.g., he was the President of the Italian Society of Nephrology and the President of the European Renal Association - European Dialysis and Transplant Association Congress in 2023. In regard to research, he published more than 500 papers, 410 of which in indexed journals (e.g., NEJM, Lancet, KI, AJT, CJASN, AJKD, NDT, Bone, Sci Rep, Transplantation, JN, Nephron, Clin Sci, Clinical Nephrol, SMI, etc.). Dr. Messa had talks at more than 500 national and international symposia and a number of lectures in the Postgraduate Courses of Nephrology at the Universities of Medicine in Trieste, Padova, Bologna, Firenze, and Perugia. He participated in more than 60 trials of Phase II or Phase III, or Phase IV.
