Dr. Christopoulos studied medicine at the University of Athens, Greece, and completed his training in Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Hematology, Medical Oncology, and Palliative Care at the University Hospitals of Athens (Greece), Freiburg im Breisgau and Würzburg (both in Germany). As a fellow, he participated in several phase I, II, and III clinical trials and applied state-of-the-art methods of cellular and molecular immunology to characterize the T-cell status of untreated patients with indolent B-cell Non-Hodgkin lymphomas.
Currently, Dr. Christopoulos is dividing his time between the medical oncology service of the Heidelberg University Hospital and various scientific projects for the Translational Lung Research Center Heidelberg, a member of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL). He is working on the systemic immune dysregulation associated with pulmonary neoplasms and thymomas, as well as on the molecular risk stratification, treatment monitoring, and strategies for overcoming resistance to tyrosine kinase inhibitors and immunotherapy in lung cancer.
