Dr. Hans Dieter Nothdurft's research, teaching, and clinical practice are in the field of infectious diseases and tropical medicine with an emphasis on travel-related illnesses. He completed his medical studies at Heidelberg University and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where he currently holds the positions of Associate Professor and Clinical Consultant at the Department of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine.
One of Dr. Nothdurft's main interests and activities is being the Principal investigator in several studies on the safety and immunogenicity of vaccines against hepatitis A, hepatitis B, seasonal/avian/swine influenza, ACWY meningococcal meningitis, rabies, Japanese encephalitis as well as in the epidemiology, treatment, and prophylaxis of malaria, travelers diarrhea and hepatitis E in travelers. He is also a medical monitor in a study of a new vaccine against Chikungunya virus disease.
Dr. Nothdurft has more than 180 peer-reviewed scientific publications and more than 250 presentations at national and international conferences in the field of epidemiology, control, prophylaxis, and therapy of infectious and tropical diseases, mainly in travelers.
