Biography

Dr. Stefan Woehrl completed his Medical Degree from the University of Vienna in 1999. From 2000 to 2006, he underwent his dermatology and venereology residency at Prof. Georg Stingl's Division of Immunology, Allergy, and Infectious Diseases (DIAID) in the Department of Dermatology at the Medical University of Vienna. In 2007, Dr. Woehrl assumed the position of Assistant Professor ("Privatdozent") for Dermatology & Venereology at the Medical University of Vienna. During this time, he condu...cted research on enhancing the clinical diagnosis of allergic diseases of the skin and the respiratory tract, culminating in his habilitation thesis. He progressed to the role of Associate Professor in 2012. Additionally, from 2007 to 2012, he led the allergy clinic at the University's Department of Dermatology. In 2012, Dr. Woehrl transitioned to the Floridsdorf Allergy Centre (FAZ), the largest private allergy outpatient clinic in Central Europe, as a full member. He also rejoined Prof. Stingl's DIAID as a part-time senior consultant from 2013 to 2017. Since then, he has dedicated himself fully to the Floridsdorf Allergy Centre, where he evaluates approximately 150 new patients on a weekly basis. Dr. Woehrl has held positions in various academic organizations and international societies. He has been serving as the Treasurer of the Austrian Society for Dermatology and Venereology (ÖGDV) since 2016 and was the Secretary of Protocol from 2008 to 2012, followed by Treasurer from 2012 to 2014 for the Austrian Society for Allergology and Immunology (ÖGAI). Additionally, he was the President of the Allergy Working Group of the Austrian Society for Dermatology and Venereology from 2007 to 2012 and later became Vice President from 2012 to 2014 and from 2019 to 2021. Furthermore, Dr. Woehrl was the National Delegate on the boards of the European Society of Contact Dermatitis from 2004 to 2008. He also served as the Local Coordinator for the Medical University of Vienna within the EU's FP6 Network of Excellence GA²LEN from 2004 to 2010. He has been a Faculty Member of F1000 Medicine since 2008 and a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI) since 2012. Additionally, he was a member of the Editorial Board of the International Archives of Allergy and Immunology from 2010 to 2017. His research primarily focuses on diagnosing a wide range of allergic diseases in clinical allergology, including allergic contact dermatitis, hymenoptera venom allergy, component-resolved allergy diagnosis of allergic rhinitis and asthma, and the clinical management of drug hypersensitivity. Dr. Woehrl has published over 90 original scientific papers and authored nine scientific books. He has delivered more than 280 national and international lectures on allergology and organized 30 national and international allergy conferences, notably including the prominent national allergy meeting "What's new in allergy?".
