Biography

Dr. Madhusmita Misra is a pediatrician with board certification in Pediatric Endocrinology. She is currently the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Associate Chief of the Academic Faculty Development Program at Mass General for Children, Associate Director of the Translational and Clinical Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, Medical Research Officer for Massachusetts General Hospital through the Harvard wide CTSA, and Past Preside...nt of the Pediatric Endocrine Society. Dr. Misra’s primary clinical interests are pituitary, reproductive and bone disorders, but she sees patients with all other endocrine conditions as well. She is an NIH funded investigator with continuous NIH funding since 2000, and her research has focused on neuroendocrine and bone alterations in conditions that span the weight spectrum from anorexia nervosa to the female athlete with amenorrhea to obesity, and she has also worked on bone outcomes in children with autism spectrum disorders and type 1 diabetes. Dr. Misra’s research has contributed significantly to our understanding of low bone accrual in teenagers with anorexia nervosa, exercise-induced amenorrhea, following bariatric surgery and in autism spectrum disorders, and she is working on therapies to optimize bone health in these populations.
