Dr. Kjeld Schmiegelow

Dr. Kjeld Schmiegelow is a renowned Consultant in Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at Juliane Marie Centre, Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen, Denmark. He obtained his MD degree from the University of Copenhagen in 1981 and has since become an esteemed member of the medical community. In addition to his current position at Juliane Marie Centre, Dr. Schmiegelow is also a Faculty Professor in Pediatrics at the University of Copenhagen and in Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at Juliane Marie Centre..., Rigshospitalet. He has extensive leadership experience, having served as the Head of the Pediatric Oncology Center with approximately 12,000 annual bed days or ambulatory visits. Dr. Schmiegelow is also a pioneer in the field of pediatric oncology research. He founded the Laboratory for Pediatric Oncology ("Bonkolab") at Rigshospitalet in 1988 and has published over 490 peer-reviewed papers. His research focuses on various areas such as the etiology of childhood cancer, leukemia biology, pharmacology of anticancer agents, personalized medicine, CNS tumors, inequality in cure rates, somatic and psychosocial late effects of childhood cancer, and rehabilitation. Dr. Schmiegelow has also held numerous affiliations in the medical field, including membership in the Strategic Research Council of Rigshospitalet, Secretary General of the European Branch of the International Society for Pediatric Oncology (2002-2006), Secretary General of the Nordic Society for Paediatric Haematology and Oncology (2000-2004), and Chair of the I-BFM Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Committee. Additionally, he has served as a member of the Advisory Board for the Danish and Norwegian Comprehensive Cancer Center Committees and the EU Horizon Europe Cancer Mission.
