Biography

Dr. Rainald Seitelberger is a renowned Specialist in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. He is currently the Head of the Department of Cardiac- Vascular- and Endovascular Surgery of the Paracelsus Medical University, General Hospital, and was the President of the Austrian Society of Cardiac- and Thoracic Vascular Surgery.

For his specific surgical achievements, Dr. Seitelberger received various awards and honors. Some of the achievements include: First Heart Transplant at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, University Freiburg, Germany (1992); World wide first Transmyocardial Laser Revascularisation with a Holmium – YAG - Laser (1995); First implantation of the Medtronic Mosaic Bioprostheses in Austria (1997); Worldwide first clinical use of the pneumatically driven, pulsatile, biventricular assist device of Cardio Technologies, Inc. (1998); Development and first clinical experience of a new surgical technique for mitral valve reconstruction: triangular plication of the anterior mitral valve leaflet (Triangular plication of the anterior mitral leaflet: a new operative technique. Ann Thorac Surg 2004; 78:e36-7) (1999); First combined MAZE–surgery for treatment of atrial fibrillation in Austria using the Microwave ablation device (2001); First European implantation of the newly designed Edwards MC3 Tricuspid Annuloplasty System (2002); Worldwide first clinical use of the Epicor Ultra-MAZE device for the treatment of patients with chronic atrial fibrillation (2003); First minimal invasive aortic valve implantation via right-lateral thoracotomy in Austria (2006); First minimal invasive epicardial MAZE-Operation via bilateral mini-thoracotomy in Austria using the Medtronic Gemini-Bipolar System (2007); First worldwide combined surgical correction of a pulmonary artery aneurysm with a homograft and simultaneous correction of a funnel chest (2010); First simultaneous surgical correction of an ascending aortic aneurysm plus aortic valve reconstruction using the Yacoub-Lansac operation in Austria (2012); Worldwide first implantation of the SORIN CROWN Pericardial Bioprostheses (2014).
