Dr. Khashayar Vakili has extensive experience in liver surgery and transplantation. He received a Medical Degree from the Boston University School of Medicine and then completed several years of postdoctoral training in general surgery, transplantation, and hepatobiliary surgery at Lahey Clinic.
Dr. Vakili has been a faculty member in the Department of Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital since 2009 and is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He previously served as the Surgical Director of Liver, Kidney, Intestine, and Multivisceral transplantation at Boston Children's Hospital. He has also held several appointments at other hospitals and affiliated institutions, including Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.
Moreover, Dr. Vakili has held numerous administrative and committee service positions at the local, regional, and national levels, including serving as a member of the Pediatric Committee for the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network/United Network for Organ Sharing (OPTN/UNOS) and Liver Surgery and Transplantation Committee at American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. Dr. Vakili is also a member of several professional societies and has received various honors and prizes throughout his career, including the Howard Hughes Boston University Undergraduate Fellowship and the Excellence in Teaching Award from Tufts University School of Medicine.
Dr. Vakili has published extensively in the field of liver surgery and pediatric solid organ transplantation and currently maintains an active basic science lab focusing on liver cancer biology.
