Dr. Jose Angel Urbano-Moral, MD, Ph.D., is the director of the Inherited Cardiac Conditions and Myocardial Diseases Unit at Jaen University Hospital (Jaen, Spain). He is also a member of the Echocardiography Laboratory and clinical lead of the Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Service. He is an enthusiastic researcher in the field of cardiomyopathies and leads the ReCaH Research Group, dedicated to the investigation on diagnostic and prognostic tools to optimize the management of patients with inherited cardiac conditions and infiltrative or systemic diseases with cardiac involvement.
Dr. Urbano-Moral earned his medical degree from the University of Cordoba School of Medicine (Cordoba, Spain), and completed the Cardiology residency at Virgen del Rocio University Hospital (Seville, Spain). He then specialized in Cardiovascular Imaging with research and clinical fellowships at Tufts Medical Center (Boston, USA), and Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (Barcelona, Spain). He was awarded his PhD for his multicenter work on the influence of hypertrophy and fibrosis on impaired myocardial mechanics in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He holds two master's degrees, in Clinical Trials (University of Seville, Spain) and Biomedical Research (University of Malaga, Spain). Dr. Urbano-Moral has previously worked at the Inherited Cardiac Conditions & Heart Failure Unit at Guy's & St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (London, UK) and currently holds a post as an honorary consultant cardiologist in that organization.
