Dr. Claus Garbe completed his medical studies at the Free University of Berlin, Germany, acquired his doctorate in medicine in 1983, and qualified as a specialist in dermatology and venereology in 1987. In 1990 Dr. Garbe habilitated on the biology of melanoma cells.
In 1995 Dr. Garbe was appointed a University Professor of Dermatology and the Head of the Section for Dermato-oncology at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, where he also headed the polyclinic of the university skin clinic for twenty years. Dr. Garbe wrote the textbook "Therapy of Skin Diseases" and the standard work "Dermatological Recipes". He coordinates the development of medical guidelines on behalf of the German Dermatological Society and the German Cancer Society.
Dr. Garbe is currently the President of the European Association of Dermato-oncology (EADO) and the former President of the Melanoma World Society (MWS). He has additional qualifications in allergology, phlebology, environmental medicine, dermatohistology, drug-based tumor therapy, and palliative medicine.
