Dr. Ashwin Sridhar is a Consultant Urologist at the University College London Hospital NHS Trust, where he has been working since 2018. Prior to this, he underwent Urology registrar training and served as a Senior House Officer in Urology at the same institution. Dr. Sridhar holds an MBBS from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, India, and completed an MSc in Surgical Technology at Imperial College London, passing with distinction.
Dr. Sridhar has received several awards and distinctions for his work, including the UCL Faculty Education Team Award 2021, Markovicz Prize for Best Outgoing Registrar UCLH 2018, and several poster prizes at various international conferences. He has extensive clinical operating experience in pelvic Uro-oncology, with hundreds of surgeries performed, including robot-assisted radical cystectomy and urinary diversion, open radical cystectomy and urinary diversion for cancer, robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, and open prostatectomy for cancer.
Dr. Sridhar has also demonstrated managerial and leadership abilities, such as initiating a quality assurance program at UCLH for patients referred for radical surgery for prostate cancer. He designed and implemented a theatre planning meeting and a surgical outcome review meeting, which have become an integral part of the prostate cancer pathway in the unit and have been taken up by other centers in the UK and Europe. Dr. Sridhar has also helped design a one-stop enhanced recovery cystectomy pathway and was a subject matter expert and physician builder for the EPIC electronic health record system at UCLH.
In terms of research, Dr. Sridhar's interests include educational research, assessing outcomes of modular training and simulation-based training in robotic surgery using automated performance metrics, bladder cancer, where he served as a co-investigator in several large multicenter trials, and surgical outcomes-based research for bladder and prostate cancer. He is also involved in setting up the pipeline for Image-guided surgery research with the Department of Medical Imaging at UCL. Dr. Sridhar has over 140 publications to his name.
