Dr. Ammar Sukari is a highly accomplished oncologist with an extensive academic and professional background. He currently holds two faculty appointments at Wayne State University, including Associate Professor at the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Division of Head & Neck Surgery, and Associate Professor at the Department of Oncology.
Dr. Sukari has also held various hospital and other professional appointments throughout his career, including his current role as the Medical Director of Medical Oncology at the Karmanos Cancer Network since 2021. He served as the Medical Director of the Karmanos Cancer Center - Wertz Clinic in Detroit, MI, from 2011 to 2014, and as the Medical Director of the Karmanos Crittenton Cancer Center in Rochester Hills, MI, from 2010 to 2011. Additionally, he has been an Oncology Staff Physician at several institutions, including the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, MI, since 2008 and the Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, MI, since 2006.
Dr. Sukari received his medical degree from the University of Aleppo Medical School in Syria in 1998. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Medical Oncology at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI, from 2001 to 2006.
He is a member of several professional societies, including the Syrian American Medical Society, the Michigan State Medical Society, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sukari has received numerous honors and awards, including the School of Medicine College Teaching Award from Wayne State University/School of Medicine in 2017 and the Educator of the Year Award from the Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program at Wayne State University/School of Medicine in 2016-2017. He currently has more than 150 publications to his credit.
