After completing an undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley, and obtaining his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University, Dr. Abhisekh Mohapatra completed his vascular surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. His residency provided him with an exceptionally broad experience with all clinical aspects of vascular surgery, ranging across the spectrum of vascular conditions and exposure to complex patients and procedures at a large tertiary care referral center. In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Mohapatra had the opportunity during his residency to complete a Master’s degree in clinical research. The formal education in methodology and statistical analysis, together with numerous opportunities to present and publish his work, have put him on a trajectory to become an independent clinical investigator.
Dr. Mohapatra's clinical areas of interest include abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD), and thus far his research activities have focused around these clinical interests. Dr. Mohapatra has published work better delineating treatment strategies in patients with PAD, specifically looking at how patient-specific factors (such as wound location or anatomic disease patterns) affect outcomes. In patients with AAA, Dr. Mohapatra has described perioperative outcomes of patients undergoing open repair for late complications of endovascular repair. Dr. Mohapatra's current interests include utilizing large datasets to further explore current practice patterns and comparative outcomes in various clinical areas in vascular surgery.
